A certificate distribution ceremony for the neo-literates was held in the president house Islamabad on June 4, 2010. President Asif Ali Zardari was the chief guest. The other invitees included Advisor to PM on Education Sardar Assef Ahmed Ali, Special Advisor to PM on Education Begum Shehnaz Wazir Ali, Ms. Farahnaz Ispahani, and Ms. Fouzia Wahab along with MNAs, federal secretaries, donors, etc.

 NCHD has arranged this function to distribute certificates in the neo literates attending Adult Literacy Course in its centres. Around six hundred female adult learners from districts Swabi, Mardan, Attock, Mandi Bahauddin & Gujrat participated in the ceremony.  

Addressing to the gathering, the President Asif Ali Zardari said that empowerment of women was dream of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and we are moving forward to translate this dream into reality through National Commission for Human Development. The completion of first literacy course in 19000 adult literacy centres throughout the country under aegis of National Commission for Human Development is a step towards realization of the dream of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto for the empowerment of the destitute of the country especially the women.

The President after distributing certificates among 20 women complimented the Prime Minister, the Government and all those associated with the program and emphasized upon the need to set up more and more such centres so that more people could benefit from such facilities. He also urged the government to start the post literacy courses and skill centers particularly for women in the country.

 

The President also announced Rs. 5,000 each for women participants affiliated with the program.

Sardar Assef Ahmed Ali, Advisor to PM on Education, speaking on the occasion highlighted the commitment of the Government towards education sector and highlighted NCHD’s efforts towards achieving the literacy goals in the country. 

 

At this occasion, the Chairperson NCHD Ms. Nafisa Shah highlighted the role being played by NCHD in education and health sectors and said that NCHD possess nationwide setup of operational offices with highly qualified professionals who can deliver in any circumstances.

 

She told that the Commission has established 19,000 literacy centers and 16,000 feeder schools in 144 districts to provide basic education and provision of basic health facilities to the poor women. She said that fifty thousand jobs have also been provided to women.
