LOGO COMPETITION Millions around the world, including 55 per cent Pakistanis, are deprived of the basic right to education. International community has recognized the significance of literacy, and has joined hands for eradication of illiteracy through EFA and MD Goals. Government of Pakistan too is a signatory to these movements. Year 2010 as the National Literacy Year was officially declared by the Honorable Prime Minister of Pakistan on 8th July, 2009. National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) is playing its role as a Lead Agency for Literacy in Pakistan, and is also providing services as Secretariat for National Literacy Year (NLY) 2010. As with other ventures of promotion of adult literacy, public awareness and mobilization, a logo competition was announced, and an impartial jury was formulated to finalize a Logo for literacy, which is one of the main activities of the Plan of Action for NLY 2010. The main objectives of the Competition were to create awareness amongst the people of Pakistan, as well as to develop a sense of ownership and involvement of the citizens for the cause of Literacy in the country. The Jury consisted of Jamal Shah, Chairman Hunerkada, Ms. Sarah Adeel, Design Expert of United States of Education Program (USEP), and Ms. Amal Saleh, Design Expert of Channel 7. Ms. Mussarrat, Director Audio and Visual of Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) could not reach due to urgent work matters, and was sent the final result for opinion, which she promptly seconded. The winner shall be acknowledged by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani on the occasion of the National Literacy Convention, to be held by the end of August 2010.
